Our story
Making It in Asheville was born out of curiosity and a healthy dose of desperation.
You see, when we decided to move to Asheville, we didn’t have jobs —or a plan for making “it” in Asheville— yet.
As it turns out, that’s sort of a big deal in this town. One of the most common things Asheville locals say when you mention you’re planning to move here is this:
“I hope you brought a job with you!”
Welp. At the time of moving, we didn’t have jobs to bring with us, but we did have a sense that everything was going to work out just fine. Perhaps you’d consider us naive and reckless.
We prefer the term “optimistic.”
Anyway, about a month before the move we had a crazy idea:
“What if we shared our story of trying to ‘make it’ in Asheville?”
Our logic was simple. There are plenty of people making it in Asheville—people with their own small businesses, entrepreneurial, and creative ventures. So, why not us, right?
We quickly realized that we couldn’t be the only people who were thinking about moving to Asheville without a full-blown plan and or knowing exactly how it would work out.
That’s when we knew we were on to something.
We decided to start a podcast where we’d interview Asheville’s artists, freelancers, and entrepreneurs to learn more about their stories and journey of “Making Things” and Making It here in Asheville.
And thus, Making It in Asheville was born.
Since episode #1, our goal has been to share podcast interviews filled with valuable stories and lessons from the makers we meet. We hope these stories inspire you to follow your passion too.
We believe that everyone—no matter where they are from, what they do, or what stage of their business they are in—has a story to tell. And we’re here to help tell it.
